Die Entdeckung der Welt von Kalifornien aus
Gegründet wurde die bLind Skateboards mit dem Sensenmann von Mark Gonzales, einem kreativen Zeichner, Maler und Street Skater der ersten Stunde, im Jahre 1989. Die Skateboards wurden in Kalifornien gefertigt, nicht zuletzt, weil es Gonzales`s Heimat war. Von dort aus begann mit 15 Jahren auch sein Skateboard Siegeszug, der ihm Sponsoren wie Alva- und Vision Skateboards brachte. Sogar der Platz Embacadero in San Francisco erhielt eine neue Namensgebung in der Skaterszene, die ihn fortan „Gonz Gap“ nannte. Gonzales war der erste Skateboarder, dem es gelang ein so großes Hindernis mit einem Kickflip zu überwinden. Für sein Lebenswerk im Skateboarding erhielt er 2006 den „Legend Award“ vom Transworld Skateboarding-Magazin.
Das Team bei Blind Skateboards
Das Team vereint so unterschiedliche Charaktere und Talente wie Jordan Maxham, dessen Philosophie der wilde Ride und das Unkonventionelle ist. TJ Rogers (Red Bull) und Kevin Romar folgen dem Firmengründer auf ganz eigenen Wegen und überwinden gaps wie auf Flügeln. Der Routinier Micky Papa bringt seine extreme Brettkontrolle auf die Straße während Jason Thurtle und Cody McEntire die ganze Welt als deren Spielplatz betrachten. Sora Shirai ist der Youngster, von dem man in Zukunft sicher noch einiges zu sehen bekommen wird.
Video Vorreiter bei Blind
Als Mark Gonzales im Zuge seiner Unternehmensgründung 1991 eines der ersten Skateboard-Videos überhaupt herausbrachte erhielt es den Namen „Video Days“ (Achtung das Video ist 30 Jahre alt und die Qualität dementsprechend). Ein legendärer Skatetrip seiner Zeit, der das Skateboarden modernisierte und Inspiration für viele Skater war und ist. Heute zeigt sich die neue Generation von Skatern und steht dem Vorreiter in nichts nach. Auf dem unternehmenseigenen Youtube Kanal sind unter anderem großartige "i AM blind" Parts mit Jayden Bono, Nassim Lachhab und Mike Piwowar zu sehen. Enjoy!
