Zoo York
Zoo York — NYC skate heritage since 1993. Decks, T-shirts, hoodies and caps with the unmistakable East Coast vibe: graffiti aesthetic, Tag Logo, Bird Logo. At Skateshop24 you'll find the current Zoo York lineup — heritage brand with a clear NYC DNA. Shipping in 1–2 working days.
Heritage — from the Soul Artists to the NYC Skate Brand
The story starts in the 70s with the Soul Artists of Zoo York, a crew of skating graffiti artists in New York City. One of them, Rodney Smith, founded Shut Skateboards in 1986 — the first brand to give the NYC scene its own team and gear. In 1991 Smith shut down Shut and planned the next move: together with designer Eli Morgan Gesner and manager Adam Schatz, he launched Zoo York Skateboards in 1993.
Unlike the West Coast pop aesthetic of the big California brands, Zoo York brought the gritty East Coast vibe into mainstream skateboarding — hip-hop, urban tag aesthetic, black-white-grey branding with red accents. Heritage pros like Harold Hunter (NYC legend, † 2006), Robbie Gangemi, Peter Bici, Jeff Pang and Chris Brunner shaped the brand through the 90s and early 2000s.
Zoo York Today — Heritage Brand, Not a Pro Skate Label
Honest take: Zoo York 2026 isn't Zoo York 1998. After the 2001 sale to Marc Ecko / Iconix, the brand has gone through multiple ownership changes and now positions itself more as a streetwear label with skate heritage than as a pure pro skate brand. If you like the East Coast branding and the NYC DNA, Zoo York delivers clean apparel pieces and classic-look decks. If you want an active pro team with video output, look at Baker or Deathwish instead.
Which Zoo York Pieces?
- Logo decks — Bird Logo, Tag Logo and rotating NYC skyline series. Standard sizes from 7.75″ to 8.25″.
- Harold Hunter memorial releases — occasional tribute drops for the NYC legend.
- T-shirts and hoodies — with Tag Logo, Bird Logo or NYC skyline print. Mid-weight cotton, streetwear-ready.
- Caps and beanies — usually 6-panel or snapback with embroidered logo.
- Accessories — socks, patches, occasional jackets in the seasonal range.
What Pairs Well with Zoo York?

FAQ
Does Zoo York still have a pro team?
Not the way it did in the 90s and 2000s. Today Zoo York is primarily a lifestyle/streetwear brand with skate heritage. If you want an active pro team with video parts, current skate brands are a better fit.
Who was Harold Hunter?
One of the most iconic NYC skater personalities of the 90s, actor in Larry Clark's "Kids" (1995). Hunter passed away in 2006 at age 31. His name is closely tied to the Zoo York heritage.
