Skateboard wheels in the sale

Reduced wheels for street, park and cruising, plus longboard wheels. Powell-Peralta, Spitfire, Bones, OJ, Pig and Retro come up here regularly, and only blank wheels come in cheaper. Wheels are sold in sets of four – one set does a whole board.

Diameter: how big should they be?

The diameter in millimetres decides how quickly you pick up speed and how well you get across rough tarmac.

• 50 to 53 mm: light and close to the ground, good for flatground and technical skating.
• 54 to 58 mm: the all-rounder for street and park, still rolls cleanly on rough ground.
• 58 mm and bigger: more roll speed, typical for cruising and for longboards. From this size up you need higher trucks or riser pads.

Hardness: making sense of the A scale

The number with the A after it gives the hardness. The higher it is, the harder the wheel.

• 99A to 101A: hard street wheels. Fast on smooth concrete and they slide predictably, but they pass on every bump.
• 95A to 98A: a bit more grip and cushioning, a good compromise for roads with a rough surface.
• 78A to 87A: soft cruiser and longboard wheels. They swallow cracks and cobbles, but they are no good for slides.

Do not forget the bearings
